Health
We support organizations that provide access to food and nutrition programs that promote better health outcomes for people at higher risk of issues.
In certain geographies across the country, there is a life expectancy gap of 20 to 30 years between different neighborhoods within the same cities. Key drivers of this disparity in mortality rates include cardiometabolic disorder and maternal and infant health. At the root of these drivers are food and nutrition insecurity.
The Center’s Health pillar is focused on community-driven solutions for improving access to healthier foods and improving health outcomes through “food as medicine” programs.
We established this pillar in 2020, recognizing the disparity in mortality rates between predominantly Black and White communities. Over the last few years, we’ve worked in ways that have helped us invest in areas that uplift all communities.
Wholesome Wave
The Walmart Foundation awarded a grant to Wholesome Wave to support the maturation of "produce prescription" programs by helping ensure programs are evidence-based and culturally relevant.
