Governance and Values
Giving by Walmart is overseen by a committee of Walmart executives selected for their experience and expertise, in consultation with the Nominating and Governance Committee, a subset of Walmart's majority independent board. The committee plays a role in the oversight of Walmart's social, community and sustainability initiatives and charitable giving. Walmart giving includes the company’s donations to the Walmart Foundation, and other cash and in-kind donations. The Walmart Foundation is a separately incorporated 501(c)(3) private foundation, entirely funded by the company.
Julie Gehrki is president of the Walmart Foundation and also senior vice president of philanthropy at Walmart. She leads our charitable giving efforts, which, in FY2024, totaled more than $1.7 billion in cash and in-kind support to programs that align with our global philanthropic priorities: creating economic opportunity in retail, advancing environmental sustainability, strengthening local communities and fostering equity.
The Foundation’s financial statements are audited independently each year.
