Education
We support on-the-job upskilling and non-degree credentials to help working adults get a better start and advance in their careers.
The Center’s Education pillar is focused on helping working adults move into high-demand jobs through a skills-based talent system. This includes helping them navigate learning and development opportunities and career pathways that fit their unique skill sets.
As part of this work, the Center invests in initiatives that identify better ways to assess and validate peoples’ skills. We also support the development of models for skills-based, data-driven pathways to in-demand jobs, and work with organizations that develop career navigation models and tools to support workers as they advance in their careers.
We established this pillar in 2020, recognizing that the percentage of Black men (25%) and women (30%) who have completed at least four years of college was lower compared to White men (36%) and women (39%). Over the last few years, we’ve worked in ways that have helped us invest in areas that uplift all communities.
Code the Dream
Walmart’s grant to Code the Dream enhances employers’ tech apprenticeships by providing technical and wraparound support to participants. Apprentices work directly with companies on specific projects but also get access to Code the Dream wraparound support that includes mentors and additional technical guidance and resources.
