In response to the growing climate crisis and to help combat the cascading loss of nature threatening the planet, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have set a goal to help protect, more sustainably manage, or restore at least 50 million acres of land and 1 million square miles of ocean by 2030. In support of this commitment, we invest in place-based partnerships that combine conservation, restoration, and sustainable management. Because we work across several supply chains and geographies, we do not limit our giving to a single commodity or issue.
As a business, Walmart works with its suppliers to deliver affordable products in ways that are sustainable for people and the planet, through actions that build transparency and trust. To help prevent deforestation, for example, Walmart asks its suppliers to avoid endangered forests, encourage conservation solutions and increase recycled content.
We look to philanthropy to complement the work of our business to help preserve irreplaceable landscapes by supporting innovations, research, practice adoption and local collaborations. For example, we have made targeted grants supporting innovative approaches to regenerative agriculture, water stewardship, sustainable fisheries and forest preservation.
