BENTONVILLE, Ark., Sept. 13, 2024 — Walmart Inc. announced today that Julie Gehrki has been named president of the Walmart Foundation and promoted to senior vice president of philanthropy at Walmart, effective immediately.

For the past several years, Gehrki has served as vice president of philanthropy at Walmart and chief operating officer of the Walmart Foundation. In this role, she oversees Walmart.org, which represents the combined philanthropic efforts of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation worldwide. In FY2024, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $1.7 billion in grants, food and product donations globally.

In more than 15 years at the company, Gehrki has shaped transformative strategic giving programs at the Walmart Foundation and served as a trusted advisor to the business on initiatives that create shared value for associates, customers, investors and communities. She has helped bring the unique strengths of the business and philanthropy together to achieve greater impact and help people live better every day. Walmart’s strategic philanthropy focuses on four pillars: creating economic opportunity in retail, advancing environmental sustainability, strengthening local communities and fostering equity.

“Julie’s deep expertise in Walmart’s business and proven track record in strategic philanthropy will help us lead Walmart.org into the next era of helping people live better,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer, Walmart and chair, Walmart Foundation Board of Directors. “I’m confident that Julie will continue to be a force for good alongside the many organizations we collaborate with and in the communities we serve.”

Gehrki succeeds Kathleen McLaughlin as president of the Walmart Foundation. McLaughlin will remain as executive vice president and chief sustainability officer at Walmart Inc. and step into the role of chair of the Walmart Foundation Board of Directors. Over the past 10 years as president, McLaughlin helped redefine corporate philanthropy, taking a more strategic approach and bringing business and philanthropic initiatives together in ways that strengthen economic, societal and environmental systems. During that time, Walmart has become known for its business and philanthropic efforts to fight hunger and increase access to healthier food, help communities respond and prepare for disasters, create opportunities for frontline workers to advance in their careers, and enhance the sustainability of retail and retail product value chains – strategies that will continue under Gehrki’s leadership.

“I’m grateful to our Walmart.org team and Kathleen’s leadership for putting Walmart and the Walmart Foundation in a position to unlock the power of business alongside philanthropy to solve problems in ways that strengthen the communities where Walmart operates around the world,” said Gehrki. “It’s an honor to lead this team and continue working with incredible organizations making long-lasting impact.”
