Walmart and the Walmart Foundation Honor Our Nation's Fallen Soldiers and Military Families
By Larry Jackson, Senior Director of Retail Opportunity
At Walmart, we are grateful for the sacrifices our nation's fallen soldiers and their families have made in service to our country. This Memorial Day and every day, we recognize the importance of not only commemorating those who have given their life, but also taking time to meaningfully honor and remember them.
It's part of what brought me to Walmart after serving in the Air Force, and why I’m proud of the way we have leveraged philanthropy to support organizations that honor those who have made this ultimate sacrifice.
To help share the stories of these incredible heroes, the Walmart Foundation has supported national programming through organizations like the United States Foundation for the Commemoration of the World Wars (The Doughboy Foundation), the National Desert Storm War Memorial in Washington, D.C, the National Coast Guard Museum Association in New London, Connecticut, and the Medal of Honor Museum Foundation in Arlington, Texas. These grants work to bolster public education about American military service and ensure the brave stories of American fallen soldiers live on.
Additionally, Walmart has provided more than $3.3 million in cash and in-kind contributions to Wreaths Across America since 2011, helping to honor service members by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies each December at thousands of cemeteries throughout the country. This support goes beyond an annual donation and reinforces the commitment of so many across our company who dedicate their time and energy to remembering those we have lost.
This Memorial Day, we invite you to join us in remembering and honoring our fallen heroes. As you think about ways you can give back to those who have given so much, Walmart has made it easy to support local organizations honoring our fallen service members and their families through Walmart’s Spark Good programs like Round Up and Registry on Walmart.com.
