Bentonville, Ark., Sept. 30 – To continue building a Northwest Arkansas (NWA) where everyone feels they belong, Walmart.org today announced a 3-year, $5 million commitment continuing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) investments in the region. The commitment builds upon the Walmart Foundation’s investment in TRUE NWA, a 3-year pilot to Train, Report, Uplift and Engage the community in equity and inclusion. Using the learnings from this work, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation will support programs that help nonprofits and government leaders advance in their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work.
Northwest Arkansas is strengthened by its growing diversity, and the region will become even stronger as we continue to ensure that each person feels a sense of belonging. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are committed to championing this work to make belonging a hallmark of the NWA community.
The commitment will support local organizations in developing and implementing DEI and bridge building initiatives to foster equitable access to resources in the region. Investments will aim to build a pipeline of inclusive leadership in NWA and focus on increasing representation of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and LGBTQ leaders.
Beyond NWA, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are investing in efforts to advance racial equity across their philanthropic programs and through a $100 million commitment over five years through the Walmart.org Center for Racial Equity. The center is focused on eradicating systematic disparities experienced by Black and African American communities in the U.S. social systems of finance, health, education and criminal justice.
More information will be shared as Walmart and the Walmart Foundation make grants toward the culture of belonging commitment. For more on their work in the region, visit Walmart.org.
